Default G16 engine noise

I just got my first gas cart. It is a G16. My question is how loud are these motors? I am used to working on cars and this g16 almost sounds like it has a slight to moderate knock. I eliminated everything down to the motor. Everyone else thinks it is probably just normal.

I just want to know if these are normally quiet engines. If they are I will rebuild it before it gets worse.

Thanks
Mike

If you hear a knock then it's not normal. If it were a two stroke I'd say yes they are noisy, but your engine should be fairly quiet. Sounds like you already checked, but make sure it's not an exhaust leak. I suppose it could be a primary clutch noise, but not likely.

Could be valve clatter, adjust to .004 cold.

The motor sounds fine when I have it in neutral but when I put it in drive and drive it it has like sputtering noise coming out of the muffler like a putting noise

I would lean toward a worn drive clutch making the noise, try removing the drive belt and testing again.

Just be careful not to slam the clutch shut. You may have trouble getting it to release.. Ask me how I know. Haha..
