I have a 1989 yamaha g2 golf cart. I have recently bypassed the governer and added a 7 inch lift with 22 inch tires now it will gps at 26mph, anyone know if I install a set of 8:1 high speed gears how much it will pick it up?? Thanks Tim

you'll gain a little more top end...but you'll lose a good amount of bottom end

My G9 with 22s will gps 28 on dirt and 30 on pavement, it stops pretty fast never had a problem with brakes. I think the 22s get much more traction than the stock cart tires and it stops better than stock....if you got a stock tire cart to go that fast. I'm not saying front brakes are not nice I'm sure they would be.

Anyway, 26 unless your rev limit is that low it should go faster. Is the belt all the way to the top of the clutch on the engine at top speed? You can mark the inside with a marker to check if you can't see it. I take the rear body off and ride passenger and can see in there. Make sure the tension cable is not too tight, though it will give a better takeoff that way. The alum sheaves on the clutches wear and get dished in, then will not shift all the way out anymore. Also you have to run some pressure in the 22s particularly the rears, or it will slow a stock cart down.

Stock gearing is 11:1 total IIRC, find a calculator on the net. The stock trans is 13:1 and the CVT is .9 overdrive, so run 8:1 and .9. Stock is something like 30mph at 5K rpm with 22s.
