older g1....can't get started
I am having a very hard time getting my yamaha g1 up and running. I just purchased, the little old lady i got it from said she has used it for years and just parked it one day about two years ago and drained the gas. I could never get it running while i was there, but bought it anyway. Since getting it home, i have replaced the fuel pump and put new breather assembley on it. If i squirt gas in the carb, it does "hit" but will not run.... just burns whatever gas i squirt in there. i have siphoned the fuel line full of gas and the pump is pumping good. I am getting fire from the plug. However, the plug does not appear to be wet after i try to start the cart. Shouldn't it be? Any help or advice would be most appreciated. Hoping there is just something simple that i haven't figured out yet. Thanks so much in advance for any help i can get.

Pull the carb off for a good cleaning. Most likely the bowl is full of crap and the jets are plugged up.

Re: older g1....can't get started
Yeh, alot of people who say they drained the gas never think to run it out of gas. It leaves the carb full where varnish quickly clogs jets and passage ways....

Re: older g1....can't get started
okay guys, please some more help. i did as you said and took the carb off and cleaned it real good..... now when i try to start the bowl gets wet on the outside with fuel. Does this mean carb is bad or that i did something wrong putting it back together? also the fuel pump drips fuel. am i fighting a losing battle????....thanks for any help.

Re: older g1....can't get started
also, when i took the carb off the bowl was completely dry.... would this be a carb problem or fuel pump, which i already replaced, or something else?
thanks. |

Re: older g1....can't get started
You should have a seal where the bowl meets the carb. Also check ALL of the fuel lines, you could have cracked (leaking) lines.
