Help G16 gas cart transaxle
Hi,
I'm big blocking a 2000 Yamaha G16. I purchased the 18hp kit with high performance cam from CPP. The motor arrived about a month ago, but I've been too busy to work on the cart. Once I get going I will start a new thread and post pictures. The cart is currently stripped down to the frame. Right now I'm seeking some guidance on the transaxle. I disassembled to install high speed (8:1) gears and figured since I had it apart I might as well install Plowman's posi unit. Picture of the disassembled transaxle is attached. My question is how to determine when the shift detent screw is properly adjusted? Removing the screw was difficult and the head is pretty chewed up. I didn't measure the height of the screw before removal. I got a new screw, and spring and ball. Below is a link to a previous posting on this subject. Lastly, should the axles themselves be greased? If so, what type? |

Re: Help G16 gas cart transaxle
Manual calls for measureing before removing. I would ad some thread lock and turn in to half the threads after inserting the ball and spring.

Re: Help G16 gas cart transaxle
Hi,
Thanks for the replies. While I still had the case covers off, I moved the shift lever from forward to reverse to ensure everything was working properly. The shift bar/fork required a little pressure to go from forward to reverse. So I plan on screwing the detent screw until the transaxle shifts properly from forward to reverse, etc. Thanks. |

Re: Help G16 gas cart transaxle
Probably should consult the Yamaha service manual. You can find a PDF version on the web if you google it. It will give you illustrations etc.
