Talking G1 Muffler BBQ in Progress

Last month I posted that I was going to try a muffler BBQ for my G1. Thanks to the threads and to the replies from my post, I did. Just thought I'd f/u with my progress. Put the muffler on hot coals and let her heat up. At first, I had enormous clouds of white smoke, followed by flames shooting out of pipe ends. I continued to let it burn until no more flames from the muffler openings were visible. At times I even saw green and yellow smoke. It was a total of four hours. Attached is a picture of flames coming out of tail pipe on one end and white smoke out of the other. It is now going to sit there and cool off. I'll let you know what I did next and the results when I reattach it to the cart.

p.s. I already saw an improvement when I changed the gas. I have a feeling the previous owner was mixing gas/oil. Combined with the muffler BBQ, I hope to see vast improvement in the exhaust smell and smoke I was experiencing.

Just a random thought. If there is green flame coming of one end and smoke out the other end where is the air coming in? For flame or smoke to be going out there needs to be air coming in because of the vacuum that is created. When I did my muffle bbq's there was a distinct in and out all tho they did change places but never out both ends at the same time. Maybe I'm wrong as I've never done this with a G1 muffle it's not like I've never been wrong before but just pointing out something that might be worth looking at.

I don't see a green flame. I see smoke coming out of one end. I do see flames from the fire on the other end. Are you using IE8?

To answer JcXtreme's question: I really don't know. Very Kewl question to ponder though. All I know is that at first, It was all smoke and progressed to flames. I caught the picture while one end was smoking and the other shooting out flames. Eventually, both ends were shooting out flames. I imagine oxygen found its way in somehow or it was spontaneous combustion. I'm not strong in physics, so maybe someone else can answer the question. I didn't notice a hole anywhwere for oxygen to enter other than at the ends. Hope we get a more knowledgeable reply. Thanks for asking.

To answer spriddle: You're right. This picture did not capture the green. That was later when the flames died down to a trickle. It was then that I noticed green and yellow smoke and sometimes flame, but a very small trickle at the edge of the pipe. Or, maybe I was poisoned in the process and seeing things. LOL. At that point, I had put my camera away.

Maybe I'm using IE8. I don't see any green flames. I see what your asking though. These mufflers are pretty thin. Usually on the inside they run a pipe with hole and then small baffles. They are usually split and welded together in the middle.

I'm wondering if I was letting air in when I turned it now and then. I made a lot of small rotations which disrupted flames as times. Maybe the muffler was swallowing air when I did that. Still don't know for sure.
