Might check compression f & R also check the timing, might be to far clockwise. check all electrical connections. hope this helps.

When you rebuilt the engine did you replace the crankshaft seals? If not then this could be your issue. What happens is that for the majority of time the engine is running forwards and this sets up the wear pattern on the seals. In reverse the seals snug up a little tighter and give a better crankcase compression. On a 2 stroke engine crankcase compression is used to operate the fuel pump and also transfer fuel into the cylinder. Of course it could be other things but if you did not replace the seals now might be the time.

Timing is the pick up plate around the crank under the flywheel, it can move a little usually you can advance it all the way until it hits. That would be rotate it opposite direction of forward running to advance forward rotation timing. IIRC it does not move far and I had to enlarge the holes to get enough advance on one I modified. After that it was a little faster in forward than reverse.

With retarded timing it will act 'sleepy' and not as good response to throttle.

ok so i got the golf cart for 150 bucks had like 70 psi for compression and wouldnt start and was told it needed to be rebuilt. so i replaced the piston, the rings and all the gaskets. when i opened the motor up one ring was missing and the other was there. the head was fine. i did not replace the crank seals. i didnt realize it until i had it all back toghther.thanks.

Well, you definitely need new crankcase seals, its a given. As far as the difference between forward and reverse that is strictly a timing issue. This particular 2 stroke does not care if it is running forward or backward, there is no mechanical difference. If the timing is retarded for forward then it is advanced for reverse.

I don't have a g1 manual, had thought you could use a gun on the flywheel but I'm not sure.....but I am sure some people here know. When I advanced them I went far as I could as I recall, they would not move much.
