G8 Throttle Response & Tweaks
I recently purchased my first cart, a Yamaha G8 with a G14/16 body and it runs fine for the most part. I am having a few issues with the performance though:
1, I have maxed out the governor and the carb is responding correctly but speed wise it still seems bogged down. 2, I think there may be a rev limiter that I can’t find because the clutch will take over and slow the cart down on declines before I accomplish any real speed. 3, I am concerned that there may be a clutch issue b/c I was driving uphill the other day with a passenger and it wouldn't increase the speed w/ the clutch kicking in until I hit level ground. Normally it will still kick in and on the second attempt it did fine. Does this seem to indicate more of a clutch issue or a rev limit issue or both? I am just knowledgably enough about engines/mechanics to be dangerous. |

Dont worry help will be on the way soon from the G8 guys. I do not recommend getting hooked up with these guys they will just bring you down. They will give you all kinds of help with your G8. Dont worry a great bunch of guys. Your cart shouldnt have a rev limiter its got to be the govenor. Try giving the rear clutch and drive clutch a shot of grease.

Re: G8 Throttle Response & Tweaks
jgun, First off, congrats on your g8 purchase! there could be several causes for slow speeds. The first thing I'd look at is the engine tentioner (below and in front of the air intake box). Make sure this has not broken and check your engine mounts to ensure they are not torn. Without proper engine alignment, the belt will not work properly. Also, take a look at the drive clutch - (one closest to the engine). Are there dents in the tin? Does it rattle? If so, one of the primary weights may be broken. Carb - Even a tiny spec of dirt can get in the main jet and clog it, not allowing full fuel to flow. This was my slow cart issue. This means tearing the carb off and cleaning very well. You'll find a very small hole near the bottom of the carb - this is your main jet. Make sure its clear. Check to ensure you have full throttle throw from your peddle - does the butterfly open all the way? Next, jack up the rear of the cart and spin the tires. Do the brakes hang? Do you have a tight airbox? Any air leaks will cause the engine to run lean. Hope this helps you get started!

Re: G8 Throttle Response & Tweaks
Wow Jim and Tommy you two have pretty much stolen my thunder
The only thing I would add is that nope there isnt a rev limiter on these carts just the governor. This sounds like a clutch, belt, or carb problem. Remember it's always better to do all your maintenance and get your cart sound and solid then start upgrading and tweaking |

Re: G8 Throttle Response & Tweaks
Thanks for all of the help!
I will see what I can figure out today. I already have it on jack stands waiting for UPS to drop off my 4" lift. While it is up I will look over the clutch and see if I can get a better idea of what is going on with the clutch/motor/etc. I know that there will be a learning curve involved. Cheers |

Golf cart: 4 Jason: 2
This thing is giving me a beat down today. I have been in the garage since noon and I still haven't gotten my lift kit finished. Nothing wrong with the kit, the bolts are all stuck in the front A arms. |

Re: G8 Throttle Response & Tweaks
I think I had to beat mine out and replaced with hardened bolts. I greased those lol. Had the same thing happen to my brake pedal bolt. But I lifted mine a long time ago I can only imagine what they would be today.

Re: G8 Throttle Response & Tweaks
i just lifted a G9 and i used a saw and i reachedup on the inside and i cut the bolts. I then took and put them in my vice and drove them out after i let them sit over night with some solvant to brake the rust lose. If you mess one up i have some extra a-arms.

Re: G8 Throttle Response & Tweaks
Use PB blaster overnight and then the next day break the nut loose and use a air hammer with the punch tip to drive them out
