Left-rear wheel/hub on gas cart not spinning
Hey guys, I just picked up a G14/G16 limo from a salvage yard and it was missing the rear axle. We swapped one in from another G14/G16 two-seater that was nearby and everything bolted right up but the left-rear tire doesn't spin. I should've checked that before swapping this axle in but I just assumed it was a good axle.
When taking the axle out from the donor cart I noticed that someone had already cut the brake cable from from that side, so I'm wondering if some did that in attempt to free things up, thinking there was a problem with the cable. I know without someone taking it apart and seeing it, it's hard to say what the problem is, but does it sound like the brakes are just bound up on that side from a seizure or rust? Or could it possible be a problem somewhere inside the carrier?? Thanks!! |

Most likely brakes siezed up, hopefully you can back off the adjustment screw but if the cable is siezed in the applied position it will still be difficult to get the brake drum off. Soak the cable good with penetrating fluid and let it sit overnight to soften up the rust.

Re: Left-rear wheel/hub on gas cart not spinning
Thanks caddy! I actually manage to pull the drum off today... it was a bear. But seems, like the brakes were just rusted to the drum. I cleaned the inside of the drum up with a wire wheel on my drill and the drum had a lot of pitting. To be safe, I'll probably just grab another entire hub/drum assembly off another cart when I go to pick up another cart this week.
Anyhow, after I clean up the drum some and put it back on the wheel rotates just fine now... so that'll be enough for me to move around to the back yard :) Thanks again! |
