Unhappy G16A Growling rear end

I just recently acquired a nice used G16A - It seems to run just fine , however under load or at high speed it makes a loud growling noise that seems to come from the rear end. To my knowledge the governer has never been tampered with, and it hasn't been mechanically modified. It did however come with a small utility hitch. Could the crown and spider gears be damaged from it having pulled too much weight? I appreciate any advice anyone's got on this. I'm not new to small engines, but am very new to golf carts. Thanks in advance!

From what I've been told, the growling is from a bad/worn input shaft. It's not un-common with G16's

Bad news, they are expensive to replace.

This is what I've heard, I have no first hand knowlege. I'm sure one of the Yami guys will be along soon.

90 percent of the time that is the brass fitting on the sheeve rattleing on the shaft. Youd have to pull the sheeves, they sell kits to pull that clutch and if the inner sheeve has any play on or wiggle on the shaft thats your problem. Tom at Carts parts plus had the sheeve and oil seals. its 30 bucks in parts. I had 3 g16 all had the same issue. if thats it once you fix it make sure to grease the zerg fitting once in a while. You could also spend 50 bucks more and buy machined inner sheeve. saves you the headache of repairing the other one and gives some more torque and high end.
