Default G14 airbox oil

What is cause oil to be thrown in my airbox? It has to be coming from the valve cover hose going to the airbox but why is it doing it?

Usually it's from too much oil in the engine. Make sure you have only one quart of oil in it. Don't fill it up to the full mark on the dipstick. Many people have done this and oil is sucked up into the air cleaner and it will cause the engine to smoke too. I hope this helps. I have a G14 that this happened to. I drained the oil and put 1 quart in it and it quit smoking.

Yea when I bought it it was WAY full of oil. I drained it out and added just a quart and the mark on the stick is now about have way. But I'm still getting oil. My muffler has a hole in it could that be why?

Worn compression rings resulting in too much " blowby " can cause this. Do, or have done, a compression test. An air leakdown test will also show your ring condition. I don't know what your specs should be, but someone familiar with Yamaha will post them up for you!

No the hole in the muffler won't cause that. Does it smoke? It may need a new set of piston rings.

It smoked a hell of a lot when I got it but I thought it was because of the overfill in oil. I adjusted the valves and it almost stopped completely. Now it will give some smoke normally on start ups. I've cleaned the carb. I know I need a valve cover gasket. My compression is 155 cold haven't checked hot.

chub, I feel your pain. I have the same problem with mine and am trying everything to find a answer. Every professional i talk to states that it should not happen. I believe I have narrowed it down to the engine tilt from the addition of a lift kit. No idea how to fix short of lowering the cart, but what is the point then. If I find a answer will let you know.

I am blown away. Contact Dan Plowmann, Plowmann carts, one of the site sponsers. He described what is happening in my engine and gave a fix for the problem. This is the first person i have talked with that even knew about this issue. You will need to buy a new exhaust and carb jets for around $200 plus shipping. I just did it, will post back how it works when i get it.
