Adding a stiffer spring to the primary clutch will alter the engagement rpm of the clutch as well as the force it applies at the point of engagement.

What is it you are trying to achieve?

This mod will not alter your top end at all. The speed of the cart vs. rpm of the engine is determined by:

1.) Tire size

2.) Driven clutch operation

3.) Belt condition

Give us the details of your cart and your intentions and we can help you narrow the problem down.

On a clubcar? This is yamaha section yamahas don't have springs in the primary. However yes it usually helps quite a bit to put them in if you can. Only the original G1 clutch has one far as yamahas, far as I know. A longer spring makes it engage at higher rpm, stiffer spring makes it shift at higher rpm. You can shim a stock one for a little better holeshot by putting a shim maybe 1/8 inch behind the spring.
