Default New to Me Yamaha G1?

Iv been looking for some information on repairs and modifications for a golf cart I got in payment for repairing an E-Z-Go GXT-800. Iv been having a hard time nailing down the model of the cart, and unfortunately the inter-web is not helping me out much.

The cart looks like a Yamaha G1A, Its a 2 stroke as engine. How ever, by following the serial number guide on I found on the internet, the serial number/model number is located where the G3A should be. the front portion of the serial number is worn/rusted down. Below the number there are the numbers : 84-12 If that helps at all.

So....

The first problem Iv got is that the dash switch is NOT working properly. Some times It refuses to go into forward.

Secondly its REALLY lacking in performance. Iv been looking for the manual, or a tune up guide, but also have had no luck. Not being able to competently identify the cart is causing troubles with that too.

Any help in either of these issues would GREATLY be appreciated!

Thanks for all your help!

First thing I would do is check the wiring. Just trace all the wires in the wiring harness and look for breaks.

G1's are also notorious for leaky crank seals which would cause a lack in performance.

If you can post a picture of your cart the members on here can probably help you identify the year.

If it is a Yamaha and it is a 2-stroke it IS a G1. G2 and newer are 4-stroke.
