Default G22 Clutch stuck in high gear

Have a bone stock G22 and it seems as though the clutch is stuck with the belt all the way up on the drive. It will start but it jerks hard until it gets going. I did a search but could not come up with anything. Any ideas what it could be? Should I take the cover off and go from there? I am somewhat mechanically inclined as I was a mechanic for 12 years. I have an idea of how the clutch works but have no experience taking one apart. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Has the clutch been lubed lately? With the belt off it should slide freely.

Yeah I lubed it after it got stuck. I went ahead and took the cover off. It appears as though one of the "fingers" (I dont know any of the proper names of the part of the cluitch)slipped past the the piece that seperates. I pushed it back through and put the cover on. I drove it at low speeds first and it drove like normal but as soon as it topped out I heard a the same pop noise and it did it again. The noise is the finger slinging past the part it pushs out to close the clutch in for higher speeds. Once it slings out it hits the dust cover hence the noise. Not sure what I need to replace to keep it from doing that.

Sounds like one or more of the "rollers" has flat spots and as the clutch engages, the weight gets past the roller and basicly "locks" it in the closed position. Good news, Tom @ CPP (a site sponsor) has the parts you need and the puller to get the clutch assy off the crank shaft also.

Hey smallblock...How often are there other problems other than the rollers? I am making a tool to get the clutch off. When I get it off can I put it in a vice and and brake the spider loose? What esle should I look for when I get it on the bench. Thanks in advance.

It's normally just the rollers. Sometimes the roller pins. Some change the weights, but have never had to. You can also check the floating flange bushings for wear.

How about getting it apart on the bench? If I am not mistaken once I get the clutch off the spider has to come off. Can it be put in a vice or is there another method? I am almost finished making a puller. Thanks in advance.
