G1 Fuel/Oil Mix Ratio?
I have just bought my newest project, A Yamaha G1 2 cycle cart. It has been modified for pre mixed fuel, so I would like to get rid of the oil tank that is mounted over the left rear wheel. Although the main feed line has been capped off there is still what looks to be an overflow vent line coming from the rear end to the top of the tank. What purpose does this serve?
I guess my concern is that, why would the tank that is used for 2 cycle oil also be used as the rear end overflow? Should they not be 2 completely different types of oil? If so what are the recommended oil for each and what is the optimal gas\oil ratio. Thanks New Guy for the reply on my original post on this. But I would like as much info on the matter as possible so I don’t mess something up. |

Re: G1 Fuel/Oil Mix Ratio?
The line coming from the rear end is a vent line and it went into the oil tank so that when the gear oil vapours condensed it would do so in the oil tank. There is no harm in removing the tank but be aware that the vapours from the rear end will now condense where ever the end of the vent line is. You can purchase a vent that is commonly used on gear boxes and such and mount it on the vent hole instead of the hose. You will find that over time there will be a black mix of oil and dust near the vent, this is normal.
To clarify your your second question, you put gear oil in the rear end (normally 80w90) and 2 cycle engine oil in the oil tank. If you premix your gas a rich mix would be 50:1 and lean would be 100:1 with more exhaust smoke and odour with a richer mix. |

Re: G1 Fuel/Oil Mix Ratio?
Thanks for the insight. I'm getting ready for the holiday weekend and this cart has taking all of my free time. I will be posting pics and threads of this overhaul soon.

Re: G1 Fuel/Oil Mix Ratio?
You can use a small fuel filter for your vent line. One such as for a mower will work great! It keeps out the dirt, water, and mud wasps, and has enough capacity to let the oil vapors condense in it and run back to the axle. Just take the line off of your old oil tank and put on the filter. A lot of them come with 2 short hoses, but in case it doesn't, pick up a short piece of ¼" fuel hose.

Re: G1 Fuel/Oil Mix Ratio?
I premix my 84 G1 at 80:1. It seems to be a good mixture for it. Little to no smoke.
