Question 91 G9 has no power-HELP

Just got a 1991 G9 and I dont know anything about golf carts. The cart does not have any power when the gas pedal is pushed all the way down. It will only run about 10 MPH and struggles up small hills. The belt appears to be in good condition and is about 1 1/4" wide. The clutch appears to be working properly. Seems this is a fuel or fire problem. Where should I start. The cart is all stock no lift or aftermarket tires. How fast should this cart go? What would be the first thing to check?

Welcome to BGW!!

Check / replace fuel filter, air filter and spark plug. See if that helps.

Welcome to BGW!

Check to make sure your throttle on the carb. is opening up all the way when you press the gas pedal to the floor. Check it with the engine off and key out. If it is not opening all the way, adjust your throttle cables: 10mm.

Unhappy Re: 91 G9 has no power-HELP

Checked throttle cable, it is opening all the way. Checked plug, it was dry and not fouled. looked new. Checked air filter- looked good. I did find two of the rubber hold downs on the filter box are broken. Also found the fuel line from the pump to the carb has been replaced. It is 7/32". I have seen wrong size fuel lines can be a problem. Is this the wrong size? I have not checked the fuel filter yet. I did pull the fuel line from the carb and cranked engine. Pump appeared to be pumping fine.

Fuel line needs to be 5/16 and 1/4 on the Yamaha's. It will cause a problem due to the fuel pump working off vacuum. Also take a rubber tiedown strap and strap the air filter box lid down. Yamaha's are very touchy with air leaks.

The fuel filters on these are screwed into the bottom of the tank where the line goes in. I usually remove them, break out the old filter and install an inline filter between the pump and tank.

How do I determine which size to use? (IE-tank to pump, pump to carb, and vacuum line to pump). Also when driving the cart and I have the accelerator all the way down the engine feels as if it is surging (speeds up then slows down). It continually does this very quickly.

surging is either a vacuum leak or your running out of gas. I would lean toward the vacuum leak as the carb carries enough gas in the bowl to run for a minute or two.

Maybe the carb is full of crap and the float is sticking. Drop the bowl and take a look.
