I got the 4 400ex shocks as ya'll sugessted. I have a yamaha g1 with jakes 6" lift. I was told they bolt right in. I removed the upper shock bracket that came with the lift and there still isnt enough lengh for the shocks. I don't know about rear yet????????????

sir
when I installed my front shocks on a G1 1983. I had to install a new bracket for my front top shock frame mount . I mount the new bracket above the existing bracket and forward other wise you will never get the shock on. Also you should look at the setting on to shock to see which notch they are set on.

take a look at this link on page 6, posting #60, I did this a little different I used a bar stock 3/8" thick by 2" X ?? long and four bolts. and it has held up for the past three mounts but I am not a jumping ,crashing senior ether.

I have a 6 inch Jakes on my G1 with the original shocks/springs. Probably been on for 5 years now. 22" tires. It handles fine with lots of people or lots mulch, etc. I didn't see where it needed any more shock. It doesnt have any major body roll or anything that would make it feel skittish.

Does Jakes recommend shocks now with the 6" lift?

no jakes doesnt say that. My stock shocks are worn out. So I ask on here what to replace them with.

I'd be shocked if anyone told you that the 400ex shocks bolt on to the front without modification. You definitely have to fab up the upper mounts. You can use the 400ex shocks in the back without modification, although I think you'll have to eliminate the rear jakes lift brackets.

So I need to weld in new upper mounts. What is a good idea on center of top mount to bottom mount on shocks. Weight of cart and 4 passenger. So my front tire camber isnt crazy.

This is a good visual of where to mount them..I do not remember the measurments. I suggest you tack or clamp the upper mount let the cart down off the jack and put some weight on it see where the camber comes out before you weld solid. You can see by this photo that it takes some drop ( pre-load) to hold the carts weight. The shocks are extended to the last stop.
Good luck, KC
