Default G14 Chatter

I have a gas yamaha that was used to prototype off of and now its just a shop cart. It has always made a chatter noise only when the belt reaches the top of the primary, otherwise its not loud. The noise almost sounds like a playing card flapping in bicycle spokes, only louder and more metallic. Clutches operate fine but I would really like to fix the noise.

I would look at 2 things, input shaft circlip and worn out sliding sheave bushing. Do you feel a vibration in the seat of your pants or a growling noise?

I dont feel any vibration other than the engine running, to me it sounds like more of a chatter than a growl?

I'm willing to bet it's the secondary sliding sheave. Grab the top of it and see if it has any movement. When's the last time it was greased? If it's been awhile i would venture to say the bushing went bad.

I've noticed the primary clutch cover has a busted through spot on it. Sound like something let loose?

I'd pull the cover and look. Something more than likely broke. If you can't find anything wrong with what's already been suggested in the previous posts, check your gear selector and make sure it is engaging fully into forward back at the trans. Probably ok and not your problem but worth mentioning just in case.
