Default My G14 is alive again!

Well, the engine rebuild turned out very well. Today I finished assembling the engine (new rings) and installed it back in the cart. Cleaned up both clutches, greased them, and discovered the previous owner had assembled the secondary wrong. Didn't have the spring mounted in the B hole, and it wasn't preloaded either. Put it all back together and the machine fired almost right away!

Had one problem though, the muffler was plugged up with carbon! I guess the previous owner drove it so long with low compression that it just wasn't burning enough fuel (and oil) and it carboned up in the muffler.

So, my friend was here and we cut a rectangular hole in it and removed as much carbon as we could but I know there is still a lot in there as the muffler still seems heavy.

I welded the hole back up and the cart will at least move under it's own power now. In fact, it's quite zippy, enough that my kids thought it was too fast. ;) I'm still worried that the muffler will plug up again, as the remaining carbon in there may dislodge.

Anyways, rather than buy a new muffler, should I try BBQing it, or does that only work on the two stroke mufflers? The muffler is in great shape otherwise.

Very happy with this project and it doesn't smoke at all. It used to leave a trail of blue everywhere, now, nothing.

My thanks to the forum, you guys sure made it a pleasure to work on.

BBQ it. What's the worst that can happen. You aren't going to ruin anything.
