Default G1 won't go forward

I have a 1981 G1, it will go in reverse every time, but won't go forward. The forward solenoid will click, but it won't engage the starter. If I sit there and pump the pedal it will kick in once in a while. Is this the solenoid going out, or do I have a different problem?

Could be the solenoid. If it were me I would swap solenoids, putting the reverse in place of the forward and vice versa and see what happens.

Ok, I tried that and it looks like that solenoid is bad. Is it best to replace both of them at the same time, or how long do you think the good solenoid will stay working?

You should only need to replace the bad one. Mine is an 82 and still has one of the original solenoids on it and it is working fine.

Know that the reverse solenoid can cause it not to run forward. It was the case with mine. Went fine in reverse but not forward. Tested and replaced reverse solenoid, fixed it. Lemme know if you need to know how to test it.
