G16 up hill dog

Hi, i am new to this forum. I just bought a 1998 g16a with a lift kit and large tires. it has the white secondary spring and the machined clutch. the gov. is still hooked up but tightend all the way. in our camp ground there are some long hills and this thing realy strugles and only goes about 5 mph. on a flat road it goes great, just a dog on the hills. is there a fix for this problem? Thank You for any help you can give me. Gary

with the torque spring and machined sheaves you should be able to go anywhere.

when was the last tune up?

Thanks for all the replies. Just tried a K&N filter and a new plug in and there was no diffrence. The thing runs great on flat land and up smaller inclines, but on the 2 larger hills it seams to dog up them. Also put a new belt on. was thinking of trying one of those speed springs for the gov. ,or just taking it off completley. Thanks again.

Ive done both on my G16. The speed spring does give it some more top end, but its not worth all the crap to go through to get it on. I eventually just bypassed the gov and I have alot more power than with the spring.

i too had problems going up hills. then i put a big block in and no more problems

by-pass the governor, you will get more power, and also you can take apart the secondary clutch and change the possition of the spring to tighten it up. Also i found that on one of my carts it was not greased up so the clutch would stay in high gear so give your clutches a few squirts

Best torque mod on a Yamaha is bypass the governor and install the spring/spacer torque kit.
