Default G2 Stumped me. Has everything, still won't start

I'm working on a G2 that is giving me fits. Over the past year it developed a case of running and then randomly dying with no rhyme or reason. Usually after a few hours it would start up and be fine for a few more weeks. I cleaned the fuel tank out after a few times of this and found the remains of the old gas cap and other junk, so I thought I'd found the problem with a conditionally plugged fuel supply. Time goes by and it starts doing it again now to the point it won't start at all.

Gas is good. Fuel supply to fuel pump is good. Fuel pump pumps fuel well with gas line to carb off. Pumps decent with line on. Spark is blue. Plug is new. Carb is now new. Engine won't start with gravity-fed fuel source either. Give a slight sniff of starting fluid, and it will fire. but won't stay running.

Everything before the new carb was pointing at that but with the new one on I'm lost. Any ideas?

Thanks

Your post did not mention anything about compression. You might want to check that also. Could be problems in the valve train causing loss of compression. Just an idea!! Good luck - RAY

pull valve cover off clean valves and seats. let me know from there. On the g2s and g9s I have learned get spark, gas, empty all water in air box work for two hours to get air box to seal then, valves its always the valves that fix it for me

Doing all the maint. is good, but, take an extra spark plug with you, and when it quites again, pull the plug wire, and connect it to the extra plug, then ground it to the exhaust bolt, and wind it over and see if it has spark, bet it doesn't, which means the TCI is bad. It's a common problem with them. When they get hot the solder gets hot and melts and opens a connection and the car looses spark.

Gets hot and stops, often TCI or coil. But you will not have spark when it happens.

On my G2 when it was doing that, the first time was a broken wire second time was the ground on the coil was off but close enough to make connection at times.

I thinking you have a coil going or gone bad. But I would also make sure your gas cap is not vapor locking the fuel supply: may not be venting right. Will it start with the gas cap loose or off after it quits?
