My first post, so be nice! I've searched all over these forums for how to remove the body, but I have yet to see anything but links to blow up drawings. I need to remove the front cowl to drill out and replace the driving lights rusted to their mounts. But I took out at least eight bolts/nuts and the front end wouldn't move. Do I need to remove all the rusted bolts holding the upper cowl to the lower part? I'm usually pretty good at getting stuff apart, but this front end has me at my wits end!
Thanks, Jay |

I found a company that does custom carts for race car teams here in Indy. Believe it or not he has never had his hands on a Yamaha! He was a lot of help in some regards, but couldn't begin to give me any tips on how the body comes off my G9. Could the steering colum be the hang up?
Thanks, Jay |

Dave,
I'm looking at the parts breakdown, and I've removed all the fasteners except the bolts near the floor and the plastic cowl retainer/bolts at the front. I thought both pieces would come up at least an inch. Jay |

Usually the only bolts holding down the front cowl are two 10 mm bolts in the pocket section of the cowl, two 10 mm bolts under the rubber foot rests, one directly to the right of the gas pedal on the floor, and two 10 mm nuts on the inside cowl front edges (metal bracket).

I GOT IT! The culprit was the steering column. The column is so close to the upper edge of the hole cut-out in the cowl, that it wouldn't let the cowl just pivot up on the lower bolts. After I go really ticked off at the thing I took all the fasteners off and it came right up the column. The old headlights are off and the new ones installed. I also fixed the leaking valve stem on the right front tire! I'm ready to roll!
Thanks for all your help. Jay |
