Mounts for snow plow on G16??
Ok, fall is here and I am getting the idea of mounting a snow plow on my G16.
I just got the winch and bumper mount for the winch so I can also the winch year round when off-roading. The only thing I don't have right now is a plow and the mounts for it. I have a Jakes's 6" lift so I am wondering if I will have to fabricate some type of mounts to work with the tubular cart frame as I don;t think mounting it to the front bumper or anywhere in that area of the "A" arms would be safe and or long term for durability. So, has anyone done this or for that matter know if there is some universal mounting and plow that would work with the G16 carts for a plow? I am doing this on a budget with more of self-fabricating in mind as opposed to buying a kit ready to go. My only issue is figuring out where mounts can be installed on this cart. It would be nice it someone has done this or some manufacture makes bolt-in mounts already. |

If your Jakes' lift has a hitch receiver-tube,how about mounting the plow there?

Re: Mounts for snow plow on G16??
No, don't have the receiver hitch when I got the lift kit.
All I know is that the frame is about a 2" tube 33-3/4" wide. From where a mount can be placed, I have about 34 to 36" to the front tire. This is how far back the plow would attached to the frame mount. Don't know if that will work but I saw a product for an ATV universal plow mount. http://www.cyclecountry.com/products...ersal-kit.html This looks like it may work with u-bolts and a plate for a tubular plow mount but I think it is for smaller tube frames, hence ATV's. I may be able to fabricate one like ii though.. |

Re: Mounts for snow plow on G16??
Seems like you would want to mount it under the floor someplace, meaning you may have to narrow the plow frame to fit between the a arms. That is what I would do, then you just need something in front to lift it.
Not sure what it will plow. Only plow rig I ever saw was a carryall CC that likely had a posi rear. The box was full off cement blocks and it had chains on the rear tires and a soft cab. It worked well that was a cart dealer and they plowed most of the lot there, big lot too. They could fit a couple hundred carts in there no problem. |

Re: Mounts for snow plow on G16??
What I have been searching for in plows and like is a poly 52" plow blade with a tubular frame. Lightweight and durable.
With the 6" Jake's lift I will have to make some type of mounting plate under the floor frame based on the ATV universal mount I saw. Given the distance between the tube frame is 33/34", I would have to have a steel plate to attach to both frame members and somehow have the plow attachment centered between them spaced according to the plow mount. I guess I would have to get the plow first before making a bracket. Excited to do this but just want to make sure everything checks out. As for power, I have the the plowmans' upgrade with all the goodies and all summer I was off roading and pulling others' out of the mud. The only problem I see is of course weight in the rear, but I can put salt or sand bags in the back to help. |

Re: Mounts for snow plow on G16??
I used the crossmember that the swingarm attaches to. I welded some tabs to the crossmember then mounted the plow to the tabs. It works great! The plow is a 48" heavy steel unit off of some kind of lawn tractor. I used 2" square tubing, 1/8" thick wall, for the plow push tubes. Since they attach mid cart it doesn't tax the front suspension. The whole plow with push tubes weighs about 150 lbs I'd guess, just from moving it around in the garage, it's pretty easy to move. If I had to do it again I'd get a wider plow!

Re: Mounts for snow plow on G16??
Check the weight on the Poly-Plows,most times they are actually heavier than a steel-blade due to the extra bracing for the mould-board(a heavier plow needs more power to push!).I put a lawn-mower plow on my quad,I mounted to the front cross-member,then ran a mount back under the engine. You want to spread the load of the push into the frame, not the suspension.People worry about the weight,or how the machine carries it,this is important, but when you are pushing, you need more horizontal-strength than vertical.Once the blade is on the ground, all the pressure is on the frame and its' attachment-points.I install Snow-Plows for a living(Fisher,Western,& Blizzard)I've seen more hacked installs that tore off just lifting the plow, than most people would even believe.Post some pics of the front of the cart,We can get a better idea from there. Most of the quad-mounts are so simple, yet strong and could be copied to work with your setup.Hope this helps.

Re: Mounts for snow plow on G16??
I get some pics soon.
The plow I looked at weighs 32 lbs vs 49 lbs of the steel one. Both have a tubular attachment. I got a winch to lift it and I'm going to order a bumper/mount as well. I do plan on using the tubular frame of the cart body and keeping any force or mounts away from the A frame part. I would hate to bend or,break something. We get pretty rough around here with our carts . |

Re: Mounts for snow plow on G16??
Ok, no pics yet but soon. Got a mounting plate from Cycle Country that works on a Honda ATV. I figure I can fabricate the mount since it is a flat steel plate to the tubular frame of the goal cart.
I am going with probably a Cycle Country plow since the mount I have is specific to that brand. A 54" blade should be fine. Hopefully a few welds here and there and everything works. I figure from finding the parts on Ebay and locally, I should have about $300.00 in the set-up. |

Re: Mounts for snow plow on G16??
The issue is if you hit something with the plow. If you attach in front it can buckle the whole frame. That is why you attach in the center of the frame so it will stop the vehicle with no damage. They don't seem to now but even truck plows used to have links you put under the front back to the center part of the frame, guys that plowed a lot put them on so they didn't wreck their truck.
