Default Out of gas?

I'm new to the furum and and fairly new to golf carts. I have been having a repetitive problem with my 4 stroke, not sure on the year. What i'm wondering is what they do when you run them out of gas? Will the starter keep turning? Or is there a switch or relay that will not let the starter turn if it's out of gas? I have power to everything, can here the starter solinoid (spell?) click like it wants to run, but won't. Clean battery cables, lights are bright. Any suggestions?

if its not turning over I would check and see how much battery you have or try to jump start it it may not have enough juice to turn starter lights take way less juice then starter. running it out of gas would not have caused this problem but tring to start a bunch empty may drain battery or burnt out something. if it still does not start try jumping silaniod if it starts then clean and tighten anything with a wire. check fuse if it still does not roll over look at the starter imo

If the cart is out of gas, it will stop running! The starter will continue to operate but your cart will not fire. Just like your automobile.

Thanks for the replies, I'm pretty sure I have a dead spot on my starter. If I turn the belt a little bit or bang on the starter it'll work again.... usually.

Yep, brushes are bad. Order a new set of brushes and install them, will work just fine after that.

i guess i'm not sure what numbers I need to match up... the starter is a Hitachi, with these numbers on it GSB10706B 12V 0.9HP then it has GD315275 and the VIN on the golf cart is J55-201134...

Take the starter to a Starter/Alternator shop and have it tested. It may have a bad spot in the armature.Usually, thats the case when they have a dead-spot.Hope this helps.

I second the starter repair shop!!. They will or should turn and undercut the mica on the commutator before replacing the brushes, insuring a good and lasting job. Bearings should also be checked at this time. - RAY
