New to Yamaha Gas carts G9
Good morning all, I am brand new to this forum, I just purchased a 1994 G9.
Its has a bit of a ticking when its running, and seems to lack power on hills. I have a new spark plug to put in, I am considering adding SeaFoam to the gas, and possible the oil as well. Am I doing anything wrong by adding the SeaFoam? |

Re: New to Yamaha Gas carts G9
You should do some service on it, could fix all your issues as most people don't touch them. That means a tuneup (oil/plug/filter), new drive belt, check/clean/lube the clutches, see where you are at then. You can measure the drive belt they are junk at 1" wide, for a lifted cart wider. They are 1 3/16" new.
Valve lash is easy to adjust, but make sure you seal that cover or it leaks oil on the cooling fins and plugs the engine fins up with dirt/etc., then it overheats. Some worn engines the balancer shaft in the block gets worn and starts to knock some, it rides in the side cover. Acutally the block/cover get worn not the shaft. Clutches are notorious for knocking, assume it is that unless you can locate it otherwise. Often they get a little better with a shot of grease, no more than 2 shots and make sure it does not come out on belt...its only a bushing in there. Often you can grab it and pull it up/down and feel the play. They are never tight but too much play they start to knock. |

Re: New to Yamaha Gas carts G9
Thanks guy's. I changed the oil, installed the new plug, adjusted the valves, checked the air filter.
Gee is .016 too much space between the valve and lifter. LOL Thanks to this forum, I learned the adj. sequence and the distance..004 its much quieter. also seems to have a bit more power. Next I will lube the clutch. I am sure it has never been done. thanks for your input. |
