Default G1 Snowplow setup

Last year I decided to put a plow on my cart and I figured I should share my project in case anyone was trying to do the same thing. This year I will be updating it, but for now I will document what I did last year.

Here is the plow mounted as a finished product. I bought a used lawn/garden tractor plow that was off of an Alice Chalmers. It is beefy and heavy, which I figured was good for good "down pressure" and for scraping the concrete clean. The mounts and push tubes were all wrong, of course, but I knew I had to fab it all up anyway. Off they came!

You can see in the pics that the new push tubes are made of 1 1/2" heavy gauge square steel tubing. I just made a "ladder" type setup about 8" wide, so that it fit inside the plow mount carriage. I grinded, welded, fit, refit, and welded some more. It's ain't going anywhere!

You can also see that I mounted a winch to the front. I just got a HF 2" receiver hitch kit and welded it upside down onto the top of the front suspension hoop on the cart. I used a "hitch step" to mount the winch plate to, then mounted the winch to the plate. It's kinda hillbilly, but when the body goes back on it sits perfectly under the fenders, can't even see it. During the good weather months I take the winch off by pulling the pin on the hitch step and slide it out, then disconnect the power leads. Works great. I can even put another hitch step or tow hook, or some other apparatus in that 2" receiver.

Here's how I hooked the push tubes to the frame. There's a large round cross member right at the midpoint in front of the swingarm, just below the seating area. This is the main frame of the cart so I decided to mount the plow there. I ground down the main tube, fitted up some mounting ears I got from Summit Racing, welded them to the tube so that the push tubes will slide between them, then mount the push tubes with 1/2" hitch pins. Worked great!

Here was the final test.

Not sure you can tell in the video or not, but the hitch pin type mount that I used to mount the push tubes to the crossmember is kinda loose and wobbly. I tried different pins, bolts, washers, etc, but it never took the wobble out. It got the job done for the winter, but it definitely needed redesigned.

Also, the front suspension couldn't handle the weight of the plow, so i had to eliminate the shocks and mount solid tubing in their place, no squad now! But man does it ride like dookie! So I decided to change the front end to an atv type.

The steering isn't quite right, I did end up getting some swaged alum tie rods and heims, but I still need to do some tweaking. It sure rides alot better.

I got some new tires and wheels and did some more fab work on the rear shock mounts/lift. Getting close....Next up disc brakes and new plow mount!

Wish I would have seen the part about front end can't handle weight .. Well I guess atv shocks or solid tubing to beef up front..any thoughts greatly appreciated.
