Default Just bought 1st golf cart G1

just picked it up on Sat. and I have alot of questions. I'll try to post some pics later. What is everyone doing that can't find the serial# on the rear cross member? It is pitted pretty good, and I would like to find out what year this is. And was there different G1 models? mine has a aluminum utility body with a large cargo box ( like at least 4' ) I was wondering if these were avail. like that or custom.
Already started tearing it down, sent starter out to be rebuilt. Hopefully there are no big problems, motor has had new ring and piston and hasn't been run yet. Planning on paint, lift, tires, lights, winch, and what ever else you guys "talk" me into. I can already tell this is going to be a fun project. Thanks, Mike

Welcome to the site! When looking for the vin# make sure you check both sides of the rear bumper frame. Try cleaning it up with some steelwool if it has some rust on it. Or you might have an earlier cart 79,80,81... The vin# might be on the tubed frame where the top of the rear shocks are bolted to.

Welcome!!!

This a grate place to ask questions and run searches for your G1 project.

The only thing that causes most of problems for G1's motor are oil seals. look them over very closely. saves you a lot of troubles down the road.

Good luck and Welcome!!!

day 2 consisted on removing cargo box, rear body, and trimming and prepping for welding.
Now we are deciding on the front cowling color, body is going to be bed lined.

Nice! I don't think that cargo box is factory. Not sure about the alum, I've seen a couple like that, maybe that was a factory accessory or option?

Excellent modifications. hi I am new to forum and finding some basic information about carts. I see the pics of you golf cart and the modification which you have done. You just make it a 4 seater car. Can you please tell me that is this cart can pull the weight of 4 persons? Thanks for this nice sharing.

nwarren9, I would have to find stiffer shocks for the out-law seat

Slonomo, when I removed the cargo box, there was nothing underneath it. I 'll have to weld a plate over the hole. This leads me to believe it was at the same time as the body.

Aaron007, I'm assuming ( from the condition of the box) it could haul 4 people, I don't really know anything about it, just got it a few days ago.

What other years could you use parts from? G2's?

I noticed that 79-81 had different brake parts, and I'm starting to worry about not being able to find the vin#.
