Default dont want to stop. ?

hi. a friend of mine has a gas cart. yamaha motor on it.after it get hot and you almost come to a stop, it acts like a car thats out of time. it sputters and tries to go again.it dont want to stop like it should.it not running to fast ,it just wants to keep on going.after it sputters 3 or 4 times it stops. does anyone have any ideas. could it be the cylinoyd. or the valves need adjusting. does the valves set at 8 on the intek and 11 on the exzaust like a lawn mower. any help would be great. thanks. have a blessed day

On all Yamaha golf car 4 cycle engines, both intake and exhaust valve lash settings should be ".004"- and adjusting them should be done when the engine is "cold".
