Default 1980 Gas G1--that's what I have

I was given a 1980 gas G1 from a neighbor that has a few of them...he said it was a gem that needed a bit of work...

I agree with Tonka, welcome to the addiction! It's nice to see another classic Yami saved.

The surf is coming in slower than expected so I had some driveway time ...SO this is what I have learned and done!!!
Riddle me this Batman....its 2008 and I have 2 neighbors buying 3 "80 G1's" at a cart bone yard , so each got 1 running and my cart was to be the parts cart for both of them..1 year later the guy with parts cart decides he is going to fix up the cart and sell it....After some lite work on it the other neighbor hears it running and then it is SCREAMING and then it STOPPED DEAD....He ran across the street pulled the spark plug and dumped a quart of trany fluid in the cylinder @ that point both said Piss on the work we have nice carts...The parts cart sat under a tarp until I got it earlier this week..
I have dumped the gas ,cleaned the fuel lines....dumped some gas oil mix in cylinder then spun it by hand back and forth until it spun freely both ways without the bad noises...put some mix in tank a battery and it ran great...(( I am missing the fixed clutch thing and woodruff key so I do not know if it has the compression needed to drive)).. BUT I got excited and wiped it down rubbed off a very little bit of rust paint touch up and some grease removal...found a front end and the clutch stuff at the junk yard and will pick up sometime next week....I am hoping the top end is good but am on HOLD

Please Help....In the 3rd picture you can see my choke cable going around the shock...this can not be correct and I do not see another way for running it ...is this the wrong cable for my cart or am I missing something?

Nice clean start, first the cable won't hurt anything as long as it moves freely and opens and closes all the way.. Second just remember these carts are 30 some years old but u are in the right place the guys/girls on here are fantastic if u want it run they will help every step of the way..good luck..

What a nice clean cart to start with, mine was a pile of rust and rot. Just take each componant and start fixing! We all love these things and are more than willing to help. If you don't have a service manual you can find one online, thats a must. Sounds like at some point the engine may have seized, I just got a whole new upper end for mine from Plowman at a very reasonable price. If you have questions just post them, I found it valuable to go back and read as many old posts and threads as I have time for. Welcome to the club!

I am thinking it could get pinched in the coils....I am thinking a shorter cable might be better,,
