still need help with g1
1979 g1 no spark. i just checked everything. made my own cdi with sticky on top. i checked the cutoff switch which is black/white wire. it is grounded all the time. i saw it had been cut going to cdi before i started tracing wires. i can't get spark. the brown wire is now getting 20 volts. black from motor is grounded. white and green only grounded forward. red and white only grounded reverse. together 15 ohms. brown wire is 350. is it the cutoff switch that is causing it not to spark? if so how do i wire past it? this is very frustrating. i bought a whole stator assembly off ebay for 130 cause i thought that was it. what else could it be?

Re: still need help with g1
Check the wiring diagram I posted on your other thread, I don't think that black/white should be grounded all the time, I think that is hooked to the kill switch in the gas pedal, on mine there was a lot of gunk built up in that area and the switches didn't always work right

Re: still need help with g1
I started to pull that out. Took key switch apart and cleaned everything in there but it looked good. I have pulled electrical tape off all wires and searched everything. Previous owner said battery fell over and amoke came out and it died hasnt ran since. I will pull out cut off switch and look. Isnt that the black and white wire that runs back to cdi? If so it had been cut.

Re: still need help with g1
just removed switch under gas pedal. looks pretty good. someone has already spliced connections and they are tight. as soon as turn key to forward or reverse engine will turn over until i press switch. also i just checked voltage out of engine with another meter. i now has 48 volts out of brown wire and 1.2 out of either w/g or w/r wire. they are both grounded together and one in forward and one in reverse. this is driving me crazy. absolutely no spark. i put my finger on spark plug wire with boot taken off and nothing.

Re: still need help with g1
It almost sound like you may have a broken wire the copper wire in side the plastic cover will brake or pull off connector.
to determine if this is what may be going on. trace each wire from connection to connection isolate and check residents, move wires around during test watch meter at same time to if reads change. But before you start pulling things apart take a bunch of pitchers for reference you will be surprised how much frustration it will save you. It well also help to show where you are having problems at to the group. Good Luck Just hang in there!!! |

Re: still need help with g1
I believe it is. I can push the pedal and it cranks engine in forward and reverse.

Re: still need help with g1
Wires with plastic coating will stay intact but the wire in side will brake or pull apart but coating may look good . Another problem may be the crimp connector from the out side may look correct but the conductor in side is not making a solid contact with the termination connector. I think you have narrowed it down to the CDI or concretion , I am sure you have tested all the fuses for connection and the fuse continuity.
