Belt Tension
Talking about a G14 but the motor says JN6 so i believe that is a newer addition to the actual cart. Its lifted prob 6 inches. I got 2 problems if anyone can show a pic or give some advice. I prob can get some help this weekend to work on it a little.
1. The drive belt tension.... while starting the cart it feels like it wants to roll, in other words its grabbing. The belt is loose so not sure what to think. Its got a easygo belt 7205(G or Q)01 Then #1501 on it but seems to be the correct one. 2. the belt on the starter gen was slipping bad so after looking closer the entire started is moving at the oposite end of the pully, looking i couldnt seem much how to tighten it? is the bushings or anything on the side oppposite the pully? |

Re: Belt Tension
We looked at it closer today, who ever had the cart prior changed a lot of stuff with lifting it and sure looks like the motor is JN6 but the cart is a JN3 prob replaced. We looked at the belt and it is sort of loose and removed it but i got to say I cant think a 2 inch shorter belt will fit, we had a very hard time putting the 41 3/4 inch one back on. Looks like the motor was designed to slide prob for adjustment but maybe because it was a after year it looks like one side is just drilled hole so no adjustment at all. Not sure really cause the cart was so altered. Is there some kind of trick to installing the belts.?
here is a pic, i lowered the back about 2 inches since this pic. Thinking they put the bed of a Carryall on the Yamahauler frame, |

Re: Belt Tension
It is common for the stock yami cart clutches to drag a little as they have no spring in them. Its worse if they are not lubricated or worn enough they are not working that well. The belt should be enough to make the clutch open at rest, the cart might move a little on pavement but usually not on grass. A new belt can be sticky and drag at idle rpm. The belt should be tight as you can run it without it dragging much. Most say 2" deflection at center between clutches. A long belt will engage on the primary like half way up, you lose low gear its a bad deal.
The actual tension on the belt as you drive is set by the secondary spring, once you are moving. |
