Default G29 Drive Seat Cover Replacements

Hello - I'm a newbie to golf carts and to this forum. I bought a set of new "factory" seat covers for my 2008 Yamaha Drive. It became quickly apparent that the ratty glued-on seat cover was holding on for dear life. I don't want to staple the replacement material to the back of the plastic. I don't think that would look very appealing on the back rest cushion. Do I have any options? Has anyone tried to rip the glued-on cover off and replace it? How do the Professionals do it? Thanks in advance!

I have stapled several underneath and the appearance out the outside looks fine you can't tell it has been recovered unless you raise the seat. Only other option would be to order a new seat.

How about the back rest. Do you have any experience with those? I wonder how the professionals are approaching this?

Never done a back rest the dealer I deal with said they replace. You can get a vinyl strip that will hide the staples and end of material on the back.
Check with a site sponsor that sells Williamson seats or lazy life seats. They build factory style seats and has the plastic to cover the seat back.

Thanks for the thoughts. I sent Williamson an e-mail. I may regret my next move but I might slice off the old cover with a razor and take a peek under the foam. Once I head down that path, there is no going back! I'm guessing the seat vinyl is attached to some other board or possibly heat formed to the foam. If heat formed to the foam, I'm pretty-much shafted. If attached to something else, I might be able to replace and use contact cement to glue the seat back to the shell. Unless I'm successful, I'll be left with a pile of scrap and no seat.

Maybe I need to sleep on this idea?!

Good luck.. I have been thinking about switching from white to black but I'm undecided cause everybody likes the white.

I did a little "peeking" under the cover. There is nothing under the foam. It certainly looks like the vinyl cover and the black plastic are glued to each other and the seat foam is trapped between.

I think it might be possible to cut out a piece of treated plywood slightly smaller than the black plastic back. Then, mount the foam and cover with the new vinyl onto the treated plywood with staples. Once covered, you need to join the newly covered cushion to the black plastic. I don't have a plan yet on how to attach the covered cushion to the plastic yet. I need to explore more.

I pulled the cover and the foam. Not what I was expecting. It appears like the seat vinyl is glued onto the plastic backer and then the foam is injected from a plug in the backside of the black plastic. That makes things very difficult to replace. I'm going to have more money in re-engineering this than it will cost to buy new Williamson seats. I think the road ends here.

I know I've reviving a thread that has been dead for years, but I'd be interested in knowing if there are any BGW sponsors that sell these seats.

Thanks,

TJ
