Dual Battery Setup
I'm may need to add a second battery to my 2007 Drive, but not sure where to put it. I added 2 rigid dually lights along with an amp with 4 speakers. The current battery is one of the smaller ones, so I think I would be better off adding another. Would it he best to add another batter in line so that the alternator charges it too, add a stand alone battery and just hook a charger up to it daily, or could I get by with replacing the current battery with a much larger one? If I did add a second battery, is it possible to fit it in the engine compartment, or will I need to use the bag compartment under the rear seat?
Thanks in advance for any help. Brandon |

Re: Dual Battery Setup
Most people that put big sound systems on put them in the bagwell. Most carts you just can't fit them in by the engine. You could try a 1,000 CCA marine starting battery or a truck battery if you can fit, they store a lot of power compared to smaller ones....providing it will fit in there. Then you would not have to bother with mounting a second battery. What I do is carry a jumper pack with me in case I think I might run out of power. They have lights and 12v outlets on them too, some have compressors. I might mount one on the cart at some point and just stick it on there when I take long rides with it.
You can buy isolators so the second battery charges but does not kill the primary starting battery, or you can charge it yourself, or put a switch on you have to remember to use. If you use a class D amplifier they take less power to run. |

Thanks. Just go home from work, will measure the area and see if I can find a larger battery to replace the old one with. If that doesn't work I will just buy an additional deep cycle and place in the bag area.

Re: Dual Battery Setup
A related question, what is the rated charging amperage of the generator in a 2007 Drive cart?

Re: Dual Battery Setup
I don't know, all older yamaha are 15A at max rpm of 4200 or something. They seem to charge good above 2000 rpm or so. That is about 200w, and less at low engine rpm.
