Default G 14 engine rebuild

I have a 1996 G 14 that smokes after starting up . I checked the compression and it was 115 . I know it is suppose to be 170-190 so I guess the rings and valve guides are gone . With me not knowing a lot about this motor my question is will the motor have to be pulled to do just a top end rebuild.? Motor runs good and doesn't knock . It's just down on power for pulling hills . Cart is lifted with oversize tires but has Jake's power kit added.

I wouldn't try it without pulling the engine. You have to pull the clutch to get the side case off to disconnect the rod from the crank. The cylinder is is part of the block, not like old 2 cycles. Good luck on your project.

Thanks for the info . I was afraid I would have to pull the motor or let someone who has done this work before do it . I have a service manual on my PC and it said to pull the clutch . Just wondered if there was an easier way . Couldn't tell if the cylinder was part of the block or not. May just find a local golf cart mechanic to do the whole rebuild top and bottom end since the motor would be out anyway.
