G1 not running
Any quick ideas? heading to the shop this afternoon to work on cart. It was running fine, a little smokey ( still running 50:1 for break-in), then it just died and wouldn't start. It has spark and fuel, just sputters and won't catch. Exhaust seems to be clear. I bought a new plug to see if it was fouled, but I'm thinking it is more than that.
Maybe stop switch? I would think it wouldn't get any spark though. Compression? Any help would be appreciated. |

Re: G1 not running
Do you have Ethanol in the fuel and do you use fuel stabilizers?
Expecting this could be the issue I would consider pulling the float bowl off the carb and seeing if it is clean. |

Re: G1 not running
Yes and yes, marine stabile.
Fuel system is all new, including carb. Fuel is rather fresh but I'll check the bowl for $%^& |

Re: G1 not running
The marine stabil works pretty **** well. But I would check the bowl as well.

Re: G1 not running
If your running break-in fuel mixture I assume you did a re-build and maybe did new seals. Is there any chance the timimg plate behind the fan moved? I would check fuel pump and then all connections. Compression check would also be near the top of my list in this situation. Good luck and let us know.

Re: G1 not running
When I bought it, it was not running. The previous owner did piston, ring, and seals, reed, but didn't go any further. He said jug was good and showed no signs of wear, so they didn't replace it.
Fuel pump is new and pumping, second thing I checked after spark. Timing plate could have moved, Was running strong right up till it died. Kids were coming down the hill and it wouldn't restart after they reached the bottom. I was thinking compression too. Got to get this fixed before I can start on the lift and tires, been down for 3 weeks and haven't had a spare moment to look at it. |

Re: G1 not running
$#%^, compression is around 80 psi
I'll recheck it later with oil in cylinder, and WOT. Can't get it started to warm it up. |

Re: G1 not running
and when I replaced the plug it was a 9, not like the 5 I just bought. there is probably a big hole in the piston

Re: G1 not running
A big hole would be less compression but if a ring broke or something like that would be a mid compression number.
I would pull the exhaust off and look in the port at the piston or just pull the head off, I expect you will be in there as is. At least it has more compression than mine did. |
