Default Stock G9 speed

I have a stock G9 that I tried to adjust the 10mm nut on the governer. It still only hits around 13mph. This seems low. I know bigger tires will give me more top end but for now it is going to stay on its 18's. Was thinking of buying the speed kit but not sure if it will be worth it. My neighbor has an EZ GO that is pretty fast. He drove mine and said that it takes off really fast but seems to drop off after it revs up.

Any ideas?

12mph is the normal golf speed they are set to. I'd say is the engine is revving up high then you have a problem with the clutches. Likely the primary has a broken weight. Is there a little crack in the side of the cover on it? The weight will often hit the cover. If you put it in neutral and rev it up some does the belt come to the top of the primary (engine) clutch? Is the belt over 1" wide? I don't know what a speed kit is, these are limited by gearing. The engine will only rev to 5K or so and not good for it to be unloaded with stock tires/gears or down a hill at full speed. You can turn the nut in until it stops. Also check the pedal cable and make sure the carb opens all the way at full throttle. You should have about 1" of play at top of pedal. Press pedal cart should start right away, 1" then carb starts to open or you can see the cable on carb pull it open off the idle screw on top. Pull floor panel up to get at that. Anyway, often the clutches are not working it will stay in a lower gear and do like you explain. You could also clean and grease the clutches if they have not been serviced in a long time.

So if the belt does top out on the primary does that mean the weights are probably ok?

That means they might be ok, but the clutch does not act the same under load. Mark the inside of the clutch with a marker, then run it around at speed. The belt will wear off the marker and show you how high it got. If the clutches are ok you are getting no power from the engine, as the cvt reacts to power and will do less with less power.

My belt is not going all the way to the top. I measured the width last night and it is a hair under 1". I think its time for a new belt.

1" is the wear limit but they run funny before that, a lifted cart is terrible at 1". New is 1 3/16 or 1 1/4 if you get the HD belt. The wider one may be better if your clutches are worn, the inside will be dished in from belt wear. Eventually they wear through and the aluminum sheaves get holes in them.

That's exactly the situation that I have on my cart. The secondary is worn to the point of dishing and small cracks and the belt is 7/8" wide. The cart pulls out fine but the engine screams at 14 MPH. I have a new secondary and belt on order, so I'll see what that does.

I installed the new belt. It now seems to run all the way up on the primary but if anything, it seems slower. Accelerates great but just doesnt seem to rev. No tach but I cant believe this thing is anywhere near redline. I think it is still doing about 12mph. Will try grease on the primary then I guess its time to start taking stuff apart.
