full speed problem; after rag removal/belt change
after removing a rag which got caught in the belt and drive assembly, and replacing the belt I can only go full speed. I've looked for any obvious "breaks" but unable to find problem. a picture of the sheath in normal operating condition I think would help. better yet someone with extensive knowledge may have seen this problem and could advise.

It sounds like the rear sheave is not moving. Might have some of that rag caught in it.

Re: full speed problem; after rag removal/belt change
First, thanks for any input, this thing has been a challenge.
I was sort of thinking along the same lines, so i held one side as I tried turning the other. While I wouldn't say it was bound, it was very stiff. I added grease to near by alemite and it freed up considerably. I also found that the throttle cable was shoved up on the end at the carb. After checking all cables for free play I put the cart back together this evening and it is operable now but still not as responsive (accelerating, de-accelerating) as before problem. Any additional thoughts will be appreciated. |

When engine is not running front clutch should be open and belt at the bottom. Rear clutch should be closed and belt on top of clutch.

Re: full speed problem; after rag removal/belt change
Boy Bob, that's the kind of info that really helps as I certainly don't have much of an in depth knowledge on these things and I sure don't study the position of everything when it's working (but I may start!).
Along those lines, the belt is certainly at the bottom on the front one as there is room enough. As for the back, there is about 3/16 to 1/4 difference between the top of the belt and the top of the "pulley". Does this seem close enough to "on top"? Many thanks for sharing your knowledge friend! |

Your belt might be worn not allowing to return all the way to the top.
