Drilling Clutch Weights

While camping last weekend I talked to a guy will a yamaha cart. He said that he drills out his clutch weights and it helps it from bogging down while off roading. Said he drills and then weighs each one.

Anyone here ever done this? Good results?

I did this on my kingquad 700 gave it some low end power. Just press the metal out of the plastic and drill holes in it till you get the wight your looking for. Im not sure what the oem ones are but on the quad I went from 18g to 12g.

Ok. He was saying it helps keep the RPM's while in the mud and hills.

Got two drill out, need to get some new bits to finish the 3rd. Pretty sure they are made out of kryptonite!! Destroyed my drill bits.

Ended up taking 5grams off. Went from 45grams to 40grams. We'll see what it does.

So getting into this I noticed my rollers have major flat spots, will be replacing them here soon. Not sure but might buy new weights at the same time, they look a little flat as well.

Here is a pic of what I did. This is drilled completely through, which takes off exactly 5grams. Haven't run it yet to see results, but was told that while in the mud it helps keep the RPM's up.

OR you could tighten the spring tension on the secondary, conversely a heavier primary spring too will give higher engagement and better hole shot.

I would start with the secondary spring for sure

Lighter clutch weights on the primary can very easily cost you some top end

Basically the clutch weights close the primary against the belt, their weight is opposed by the primary spring first, then the secondary spring, then the drivetrain. The less the primary wants to close, the better low end you get. If everything is not balanced you will lose top end.
Keeping the sheaves closed on the secondary does the same thing but will still allow full shift out. There should be 5 adjustment holes on the secondary for that exact spring adjustment.
