G1 top of tires point in while driving
I have a 1985 yamaha g1 6in jakes lift kit with multiple holes for the lower shock mount. The shocks are in the second to the top hole now. I'm wondering if new shocks with new springs will fix the problem of the tires tiling toward the frame. I can lift up on the cart and the tires sit correctly and the cart sits level. But after driving a while it sinks down and rubs when turning any help or advice would be great thanks

Have you tried mounting them in the top holes?

Tried the top but it just sagged back down. My father swears the shocks and springs have nothing to do with the way the tire sits. He says its all at the spindle. They are relatively tight at the king pin so my only guess is a whooped spring

They will usually sag much worse if you back the cart up. New coilover shocks have been known to help this.

If the toe-in is not screwed up, yeah the shocks are weak. They could be 30 years old (etc) they do get weak. There are other shocks you can use, some use atv shocks. You may have to move the mounts but they often work better.

Re: G1 top of tires point in while driving
I have ordered some new shocks. I'm gonna go with the factory ones jakes told me they make all lift kits to be used with the manufacturers parts. I don't mind welding stuff together but if I don't have to then I won't. This sight is great thank you guys for the input

Re: G1 top of tires point in while driving
Part of the problem might be in the design of the G1 suspension, the geometry and it being a single a arm setup. I had a similar experience, and I've talked with a few others that have had the same issue. Yes new factory shocks will help, but if you use atv shocks it will make the issue worse, unless the atv shocks are stiffer than the stockers.
Let me ask you a question..... Are you driving this on pavement when you have the issue? |

Just a dumb thought, check that your control arms are not binding.
