Default Broken Clutch Weight

On my 96 g14 I noticed that it wanted to try and pull off when I pressed the gas. It had not been doing this so I checked the belt and primary clutch. I noticed a crack in the dust cover so I pulled it . In the attached pics I found one of the weights had broken . It looked like the allen screws had come loose and let the pin come partially out . In the pic is the way I found it . My camera won't take close up is the reason they are a little blurry.
What I need to know is the center bolt left handed or right handed ? Also when I get this out will the sliding sheave come off the shaft or will the whole clutch have to come off ? I got the small pin out by loosing the allen screws for it but the long pin has the set screws back assards and hard to get to . I was trying to replace just the broken weight .
One other thing is one of the plastic slides is broken and needs replacing too. I can find the weights online but not the plastic slides. Where can I get these ? If I got to remove the whole clutch I will have to order the bolt to do that first . Was just trying to be cheap and do it on the cart .

To remove the bolt (counterclockwise) an impact works the best and removing the gas tank is the easiest way to get the job done (2 -12mm head bolts topside, 1 -12mm head bolt under the side rail), but drain the gas tank first! Once the bolt is out the sliding sheave/spider/weights will come off the fixed sheave, no need to pull the fixed sheave. The set screw's are "loctite'd in", useually you need to use a small propane torch to loosen the loctite and that damages the plastic washers, there fore the wieight kits, witch come with them. Since Yamaha OEM weight kits are like 74.00 each, on a budget go for the aftermarket, but replace all three, you don't want to do that job again for many years. Do a web search for part#j38-46253-00-00 "slider", should be able to find one. Hope that helped alittle.

Default Re: Broken Clutch Weight

Yea that helped a lot Smallblock. My service manual had pics on how to remove the sliding sheave but didn't tell which direction to turn the bolt. I may try a 1/2" swivel for my socket to get the bolt out .If not will pull gas tank. I got the broken weight out finally using a cut off allen wrench....not easy. But the spider has to seperate from sheave to get the partial broken slider out . Slider has a bottom and won't just slide out.

Once the bolt is out will the sliding sheave come off easy ? It should with the way it moves I would think.

I was looking at the other weights and some of the plastic washers look bad so your advice on replacing the other weights is probably best.

Thanks again
