Default Need help rebuilding Yamaha G2

Hello all if you have been following my other thread " Might need to rebuild G2" then you know whats up. So in my auto class at school we tore apart the engine to find that the Oil ring is letting oil by and he says my piston is scored on the skirt and that I need a new one. My auto shop teacher also says that the Exhaust Valve is worn and needs to be replace. Does all of this makes since that is what is causing the smoking problem. Also one of my Friends got carried away while pulling it a part and when he took the cover off the gears stuck to it and then he set it down and they fell out and now I have no idea where they go Is there any marks that will help me put there back to where they are suppose to go,
Thanks for all your help so far,
Nick

Yes, the worn ring and valve will cause smoking. I don't know about the gears.

Best thing I can add is pick up a shop manual for it and it will walk all of you through it.
Congrats on doing it yourself, best way to learn!

Keep us posted.

Just got done rebuilding a G9, the gears on the cam, crank, and balancer all have a mark. Mine where small indentions and dye marks. The dye marks (as in faded magic marker) are very hard to see. The crank has a mark on each side around the 10 and 2 positions. They all have to be lined up. Don’t spin the crank while doing this, That’s what I was told. I had to put in a .50mm over stock piston. Man what a difference. I couldn't keep up with my friend’s cart until after the rebuild. I've turned the governor down and can still go around him.
