Default 98 G16 starter runs, have spark, motor won't fire

All of a sudden the cart quit.

The starter is running, motor is turning over, I have spark, but it will not fire.
I pulled the fuel line and fuel is pumping.

Is there something electrical? relay? on off switch from the pedal start?

Suggestions on where to start?
Thanks
Ray

Since you have spark and gas, I would think compression, you can turn the primary clutch over and should feel compression or use a compression gauge (maybe a pushrod came off?) or more likely the accelerator cable #1 (from the pedal to the govenor) or cable #2 (from the govenor to the throttle shaft) are broken. Good luck on your repair.

I did not check compression because I don't have a gauge (yet). The cables are good. I put a new spark plug, checked the valves, cleaned the carb, still getting fuel and spark.

Tried some ether, did nothing other than a back fire.

I even tried to remove the exhaust in the event it was plugged up.
If it is a compression issue, can I just do a new ring and piston?

Possible coil failure?

If it were coil failure, I don't think I would be getting spark. (right?) I'm getting good spark.

Also, as far as compression, this ran a couple days ago just fine then just stopped. I would think that even if the compression was very week, it would still fire, just not have any power. (thoughts?)

I kept burping the pedal for about a half minute, then pulled the plug, it was dry as can be but was carboned up. Possible carb rebuild time? Shouldn't the plug have been wet? Mabybe I'm getting fuel to the carb, but not through it. I did clean it, but didn't rebuild it.

I'm stumped.

if your sure the throttle cable is opening the throttle plate, I would pour a tiny bit of gas down the carb throat to see if it hits.

Pull the plug out and make sure the piston is going up and down when you turn the crank.

I did the gas down the cylinder by removing the plug. All I got was a back fire. Yes, the piston is going up and down when I turn the crank.

I just borrowed a compression test kit. I have to learn how to use it. As of now I plugged it in and turn the motor over and there is NO compression. Could this also have something to do with the valves not seating? Should I have compression right away ? It sounds like the the air is exhuasting on the compression stroke.

errrrr....

Yes, you should get compression as soon as the motor turns over. Make sure the valves are closing completely. If the valves have carbon buildup, or are bent, they can get hung up and not close all the way.

how can you see if they are closing completely? I can't really see the bottoms?

If it's the piston, who sells the piston, rings and head?

thinking I should pull the motor out..?
