Default Any way to quiet down G1?

Just wondering if there is any way to quiet down my 79 G1 motor? It's not very loud, but compared to a 4 cycle motor, it noticeably louder.

Thanks!

Mine has the stock very thin foam insulation on the inside of the rear body. I plan to scrape it off and replace it with 3/4" or 1" closed cell neoprene insulation. I think it will make a difference.

Two stokes have always been, and always will be louder than 4 strokes, at least of the same size engines. I've heard some vtwin converted carts that were louder than my G1, but that high pitch ting ting ting ting of the two stroke is more noticeable because it's a higher frequency sound. Lower frequency sound is less noticeable to the human ear.

Do what I did, have someone else drive the cart and stand at different distances while they drive past. I've noticed that after about 50 feet, my cart got considerably quieter. At 100 feet, it was not an issue. Most of my neighbors are 100 feet away so it's not a big deal for me.

You can also get a decibel meter at Ra**o Sh**k and measure the sound for yourself, and compare it to other carts or lawn tractors or your kids boom boom stereo in the trunk. I did that once and it was fun comparing sounds. I was surprised at the readings....most stuff is louder than you think! LOL

I saw a muffler system designed for atv's used for hunting purposes. They are an auxiliary muffler that clamps on to the end of the vehicle exhaust system and takes an additional 20 db's away. Never tried one though....

Thanks Slonomo! I'm actually going to look at a G9 project tomorrow. If she's a diamond in the rough, I'll probably pick her up for my next project. That means the '79 will be sold. Wish I could keep both of them, but I don't have the garage space unfortunately. :(
