Re: Yamaha G1 1985
Charge the battery up and see if it will fire up. If it does, get the volt meter out and test the voltage at idle and at a mid-range rev. You should be around 13.5 volts at a minimum. If the regulator is bad, you will just get battery voltage of 12.5 or so.

Re: Yamaha G1 1985
You either have a bad battery, a bad connection, or bad starter. Check the battery....take it to your local auto parts store and have it tested, they may have to trickle charge it first. Get a $5 battery terminal cleaner and clean them up and wash them with baking soda and water. Once you know your battery is good to go, re-install and fire it up. Let me know the results then. If you still have the same problem....won't spin and volts drop....then you may have a bad starter/gen. The voltage regulator only works when the engine is running, so if you can get it to run, the volts should be 13.5 or better while running.
One question.....can you spin the engine over by hand? If not, you might have seized the engine up. |

Re: Yamaha G1 1985
Yeah sounds like a battery and/or cable connection issue.
