Default How to get more power out of my G9

I have fixed up allot of golf carts but have never really attempted to get more power out of them so I figured I would try.
I have already removed the governor completly and put in a driven clutch spring but I am not really satisfied yet I gps'd the cart at 45KPH or 27MPH I was wondering if maybe a custom cold air intake and exhaust would help and for cooling I was thinking of putting an air intake from the front of the cart directly to the motor compartment.
any input would be greatly appreciated

Not to hijack your thread but, I went ahead and purchased a Vanguard Big Block for my G2 and....I was thinking along the same track as you on the cold air intake. Have you come up with any ideas on how you might run the tubing?

I was thinking about making some type of slash cut on the side of the rear body, trimming it in nicely, then making an aluminum pathway into the carb area...just my idea but, curious to see what you have thought of.

I'm curious to see what some of the senior members may have for thoughts and experience on this

to get the REAL power u gotta go big block...but if your not ready for that kind of step u can do what i did and put a K&N filter directly on the carb (part # R-1050) drill out the carb jet (.046) and open up the exhaust a bit by cutting and gutting the muffler or drilling some 1/2'' holes in the back of the muffler.......this should wake your motor up a little...it know it sure woke mine up....

you can get some power out with the intake jet and opening the muffler. I have multipl e pictures here on the website of my cold air set up on my g9. Search on my name here or on buggies unlimited. I went to a 138 dynojet main jet along with a 3" k&N filter, no governor, opened up the stock muffler. At one point I was at a 159 main jet with a dirt bike straight through dirt bike muffler.
Helped quite a bit in the power department. NOTHING like my 20hp G16.

shave the head - its cheap- but not going to give much power
try unhooking governor- however, you run the chance of destroying
I would also think about boring the motor and put in a new set of rings
at a certain point their is not much more to do.

i've seen a speed spring from cart parts plus and its replaces your gove spring for more top speed, it said a g16 with the stock tire was getting 29mph! and its only $20

You are reaching the point where I was a few years ago. The best solution is to save up some bucks and go with the BIG BLOCK!! You can only get so much out of that little engine. you are just about maxed out IMO.

Save your money up, then once you have enough call tom at CPP and get the motor you want. IMO

Thats what i am doing with my g9. I am not going to put any money into the motor, that way i can blow it up and just but a big block in

I like the idea of cutting holes into the muffler, just not fond of how loud it is. on the plus side it sounds cool

There is just no substitute for cubic inches. I admire those trying to get the most out of their stock motor, but there rapidly comes a point of diminishing returns when you start with 17 cubic inches (285 yamaha).
