Doesn't sound like an easy fix if that's what you are looking for....You could take the carb off and clean it out really good and set the float. If it's running hot, it could have lots of dirt/debris in the cooling fins. To clean the fins you'll have to take all the engine shrouds off and brush/wash the dirt out, pretty common problem.

Was it running ok before the vacation?

I had a huge mouse nest on top of the head last fall.... they got in around muffler/cooling area..... cleaned that mess out and run a lot cooler......... pull spark plug boot off and look and see if there is anything under there, thats how I noticed it was full of leafs and twigs.....

I took it out of storage before trip and it would run but it would l
Kind of burp and go. Almost like cutting in and out. So I changed carbs and it ran alittle better. But I wanted to put the original Carb back on it ran OK for awhile and then stated hiccupping again

If your car has the exhuast valve set up, make shure the rods are actuating when the pedal is pushed.

Exhaust linkage seems to move freely. As far as taking the shroud for the cooling head off it looks clean from the side I can see. What else could it be? Runs fine just some times hesitates and is running hot.

You can take the muffler off and inspect the inside, or shake it around, blow some air in it, see if anything comes out. Some guys like to bbq their mufflers. Take a look at the sticky at the top of the page. Also, you could still be having carb issues. Did you disassemble the carb and clean it really good? Did you blow it out with compressed air? Make sure you blow it out in reverse order, or you'll blow the dirt straight into the passages. Did you check air filter? and intake hoses for leaks? There's a lot to be done here.
