G9 throttle cable
Alright guys, I'm new to this forum so beat with me if I'm not with the system yet. I've got a Yamaha G9 1991. I pulled it from a junk yard a couple of months ago, and so far we have redone the whole thing. My dad painted it and I have the engine a great overhaul. This thing runs like a champ. I started having a little fun with it recently. I installed a K&N filter on it and a dirtbike/fourwheeler pipe on it. It really has a lot more power and speed. Great add ons. Just today I realized I needed to change the oil so I drained it put new oil in it, and I went to go ride it and it won't go. I just recently painted the pipe and transmission. I'm thinking maybe something froze up from the paint or something else happened I really don't know. If you guys could help that would be great. I've put a lot of time in this cart, and I really don't want something this easy screwing it up. Thanks.

Re: G9 throttle cable
The best advice I can give you is, start reading the gas Yamaha site. You will learn tons. What to do and not do, in the way of maint and performance mods.

Re: G9 throttle cable
Oh, I'm sorry I just read over that first thing I put up, and I realized that I failed to mention that when I got on it to ride it. The throttle cable was stuck. I can push the pedal down fine, but whenever I look back on the transmission the cable and springs aren't moving. I don't know where it could have froze up. I looked a little bit, but really couldn't find anything. My thoughts on this are when I painted the transmission that I maybe painted over something I shouldn't have.

Re: G9 throttle cable
Have to trace it back to the tranny. Find out if it broke, came loose or froze. Don't think paint had anything to do with it.

Re: G9 throttle cable
The pedal cable goes to the trans, the trans has an arm that is hooked to a governor in the trans. They do this because then the cart is governed by ground speed not engine speed. It can rev harder to pull up a hill at any speed under what the governor is set to. On that lever is a short cable also that goes to the carb. The pedal cable is mounted to a spring so it has no effect when the governor says too fast and slows the cart down. Some people disable this lever, or the governor can break after many years. That might be part of your problem either it was modified or something broke there. In your case it might not be hooked up or assembled right if you had it all apart.

Re: G9 throttle cable
"Won't go" means what? Won't start? Won't move? Will run but not accelerate? Too little information.
Can you manipulate the throttle on the carb? Are you getting fuel? Spark? Try by-passing the governor by going directly to the carb from the accelerator and see what happens. Give us some more info and we might be able to narrow it down a bit. |
