Default 87 g2a Tranny issue

After making a homemade spool like "never grow up" did to lock the differential I installed and then reassembled everything and filled it with gear oil. After getting it all together I noticed that spinning the input shaft via driven clutch was much tougher than it was before. Not hard to spin by hand but noticeably harder. I tore it all apart again and checked all washer and such were in place and they were according to my service manual. Again I reassembled and same result. After thinking about it, the only thing I can think of is that when I separated the case the gasket tore and I scraped it all off and just used silicone to seal when reassembling. Could the lack of gasket thickness be what is causing the hard spin? Has anyone else had the same issue or can confirm my fears?

Yes, Smallblock says, you need the gasket for clearance.
