Default G16 Rear Wheels locking up???

Guys, I bought a 2002 G16 about a year ago, and it's been a dang good cart so far. Well today I used it to go hunting, and everything was fine. I got back to the house, and parked it. Well an hour later I went to pull it in the garage and it acts like the rear end is locking up. If you try to push the cart the wheels will roll about 180 degrees. I am a pretty mechanical individual, but never had much experience with working on carts. Can anyone offer any idea on where to look before I start tearing into it? What would be the possibility of actually getting a break down of the rear end, and are the parts readily available for this type of rear end to use to fix it? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

take the rear tires off, try to spin drums. take drums off and inspect. parts breakdown is available on yamaha website. most parts available, most gas axle parts expensive.

Your out in the woods with this so make sure a stick or branch is not stuck or wedged on a brake cable causing it to be in the enguaged position.

I would definitely check the brakes. The cables may be dirty, causing the brakes to remain engaged. I also saw on the site about checking the return spring that is attached to the brake pedal. I'm guessing the spring can lose tension over time.

I checked last night for sticks and such. Everything as far as cables etc... were fine. it doesn't feel like brakes because they will rotate part of the way around then it's a hard lock up. The forward and reverse seems to work fine so I'm guessing that it is relation to the differential.

Also, make sure your drive belt is loose around BOTH clutches. A hung-up clutch can make the wheels difficult to rotate.

After further inspection, I have seen that if you jack the rear end up where both tires are off the ground they will turn freely. I pulled both drums so the brakes would not be in play. However if you try to turn them in the same direction it locks up. I am assuming that the problem lies in the differential. It acts like spider gears in an auto. (Not sure if these differentials are built the same.) Guess I will tear into it and see what I find.

Most of these rears have a gear at the top and then reverse gears, maybe another gear (you can see it in the breakdown diagrams) then the diff in the bottom. Diff are often planetary. If you run low on oil the top shaft gears/bearings like to go first on the ones I had to fix. Its fairly simple other than the pain to get it all out of there, and it has to be perfect to work right. Some the bearings are standard you can get them at farm or bearing places, even ebay. I did a club car it trashed the top bearings and gears, so happened those were the high speed gears you change out so was able to put those in with std bearings. Some carts you can get posi kits for, just ideas to consider long as you are pulling one down. You could have something loose in there too like a governor part/etc.
