You may lose some top speed but the torque/power increase will be very noticeable.

so if I changed it out and opened the governor all the way do you think it would not be such a dog off the line and would I be able to keep the 20 mph? I will not be the only driver so I don't want to bypass completely

With the power kit it should not be a dog off the line. I would think you will still hit 20 mph with the governor tweaked.

Anyone tried a cut sheave/umax spring/HD kevlar belt on one of these? I have all three on my G9 clone and they really help. I put a cut sheave and HD belt on a stock cart it made a nice difference on takeoff, it gives it a lower gear. The cut sheave pushed the belt out the top and the HD belt is 1 1/4 or so it goes out the top a little more and its cogged (from CPP). Have the umax spring on my clone with hardly any preload its stiff and keeps rpm up all the time. Still have stock primary on it have to move my engine to fit a duster I got for it now. Anyway that stuff helps the clone too because it hits shift rpm much faster, more power at low speed for towing and hills, it spins up hills no problem. From a dead stop it will hit shift rpm in less than a cart length with the stock G9 clutch. That said Plowmans has some very good stuff, just depends on what you are looking for. Umax is stock yamaha spring for utility carts, I didn't notice any change in top speed, you can preload it but I found I didn't need to its in the first holes barely turned it.

Im running the cogged hd kevlar belt, and u-max spring, plastic washer removed. I dont like the super heavy springs and cut sheave, i have seen the (now thinner) sheave explode in about 8 peices. I am very happy with this setup. I am running a stock g16 primary (its much cheaper to repair). I do miss my comet primary, i finally wore it out, and parts were hard to get at the time. It will spin the 24" tires on takeoff In my otherwise stock g2 (see pic at left).

As far as the governor question, with the gov turned all the way up with stock wheels/tires, you should see about 19mph. If you lose any speed with the clutching (i have not noticed this problem), try removing the threaded rod, disconnecting the cable, and flipping the spring around to the front (where the cable attaches to gov arm). Re-connect throttle cable. You now will get about 22mph, and gov still works. Works Good on G2-G22 and Umax, NOT FOR "DRIVES" (unless you want to replace the input shaft in 4 years or less, after the gov suddenly stops governing, and the collar in there starts cutting itself in half). My lifted/big tires G2 does about 31mph.

I don't like the big springs either, secondary was never designed for them. I think I got my new cut sheave at TNT, supposed to be a yamaha. It is heavy I can say that. The cut is only on the inside where they touch, I can't see how it could be thin structurally. But the belt itself also helps as its wider. So my secondary is completely new now, can't wait to see what this comet does. My stock G9 primary is on its 3rd set of weights and very close to wearing through, has significant wear lines in the face. I've drilled the weights a couple times looking for rpm and it helped a little.
